Quick note

Mario and I are safe and sheltered until Wednesday. We’re having meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas. We’re very pleased for the moment. Looking forward to foolish things this evening. A nice bit of comfort food, crawling under some covers with Mario, knitting up some bears, watching “Hot in Cleveland,” and finally getting at least 8 hours of deep sleep.

Our repreive allows us a little more time to find something solid, something long term. I’ll not worry about that too much this evening. Tonight? Tonight I know when the sun goes down, she and I won’t be on the streets. We’ll be fed, left alone to do some much needed resting, and wake tomarrow to claim our place in the world. Tonight, my only concern is if Mario will hog the covers as she is so inclined to do.

Thank you for your prayers. I get to cuddle with my little mad feline tonight.

  1. I am so glad you have shelter until Wednesday. I know what it is like to be homeless since I was just a couple of years back. I will be praying and chanting for you. I plan to share your blog on my Facebook page and twitter.

  2. It’s worth commending you, for not giving up. I know that sounds kind of cliche, but there are so many people out there who go through things and (rightfully) fall apart and hit rock bottom and stay there. But you keep moving, keep pushing, and making things happen.

This is the stuff big dreams are made of. And I know your rise from hardship will be something I’ll be following, because, honestly? Someone with your courage and strength will have his Karma returned.

    Hang in there, buddy!

  3. Glad to hear you got a chance to have a good night’s sleep with Mario! Prayers for a good place to stay permanently very soon!

  4. Although life throws hurrdles for everyone, you’ve said “thank you hurrdle, gimme another” It is so wonderful to see someone so focused on moving forward and not dwelling int he past. I hope you continue to share your gift of motivation and knitting with us, and my thoughts will be with you today!

  5. Another (? cannot tell since posts are moderated) Love Bomb here! You and your story and your ideas and your bears and Mario are amazing! Remember this is just a moment, a fleck, the wheel of life is continuously turning offering us all our highs and lows; keep holding on, you will get there, and quite possibly the best part is that you will get there doing something you love, and something you are passionate about. “Stay gold.”

  6. Hey! I looked around your blog, glad to have come across an artist like you. Love your bears. It’s kind of unbelievable that in spite of so much talent, you still have to struggle to find a house. Mario sounds like a dear. 🙂

Here’s wishing you lots of good luck, a wonderful cozy house, and a great many better things in the days to come. Keep up the good work 🙂

  21. oh Patrick, my heart goes out to you and Mario both. I admire your determination and wish only the best for you.

  22. You remind me of a good piece of advice from Kurt Vonnegut’s uncle:

“I urge you to please notice when you are happy, and exclaim or murmur or think at some point, ‘If this isn’t nice, I don’t know what is.'”

  23. Best of luck Gregory! I love all of your work, I will definitely be checking out your etsy store. I am sending you ample good vibes! Please keep your head up. People care about you. =)

  24. Glad you have a safe place for now! Hope you find something permanent soon. I absolutely LOVE your bears you’ve sold in your shop! Will you list some more soon? I really want to get one! Praying for you and Mario. Thank you for sharing your story! Big love to you!

  28. Glad both of you are safe! Hoping and praying for you and Mario to come across a cozy and permanent place soon!

  29. Greg, your story reminds me of the book “Trader” by Charles de Lint. My heart goes out to you. I do hope that you’re able to find yourself on stable ground soon.

Please know that there are folks out there who are more than willing to help, if they can.

Give some love to Mario for me; I’m a sucker for a kitty who likes cuddles.

  30. You knit beautifully 🙂 I am sending my good thoughts and love your way. It’s heartwarming for me to witness your love for your cat! I recently lost mine, 17 years old! Give your cat an extra hug for me

  31. I’m glad you have shelter for a bit. I’m here because of LoveBomb and your story is inspiring. I’m not sure if you pray at all but regardless, I’m praying for you AND sending all of the positive energy I can muster your way. I hope you and your sweet cat are able to find a little piece of happiness to call your own very soon.

  32. You seem like a wonderful person, with a good heart. I wish you all the best in your business and that your luck turns around soon. Your kitty is adorable, and as a fellow knitter, I really admire your work! Your bears are beautiful. God bless you.

  33. I read your story on LoveBomb. I hope things change for you and you get a permanent home. I’m a Buddhist and I chant–I will definitely add you to my prayers.

  35. Dear gregory,
Heard ur story and wanted to drop you a love bomb! I don’t believe the universe could neglect such a peaceful articulate man and am sure you will find a wonderful home soon soon, if not already. Kiss mario for us, with love, jo,stevie, bay and supercat x

  36. I found out about your blog today, and I have been going back and reading your past posts. I admire your persistence & faith to press forward through such a hard time. I very glad that you have Mario, the companionship of a furry friend is so heart warming, and makes the world a little bit better, doesn’t it? I have shared your story today with others, I hope you don’t mind. I want you to get all the prayers and thoughts coming your way. YOU WILL get through this and you and Mario will have somewhere. Hang in there, and I’ll be in touch and following your story. Many thoughts and prayers are coming your way – and I looked at your shop, your bears are adorable.

  37. Also, after reading even more about you – I’ve actually been to the Firefly several times, though it’s been four years now. My husband and I used to go to Savannah all the time and we loved that little place! So sorry to hear about how that turned out for you. You have a great heart and I really do believe your luck will turn around.

  38. Hi Gregory,
I just wanted to let you know that I am sending love and prayers your way. I hope something works out on the housing front and you and Mario can have more restful nights. I’m glad you have your little sweet kitty to keep you company and give you comfort. Times are so tough, but you will get through this. You sound like you have a great attitude, and hope. Those two things can take you far. Lots of love to you and Mario.

  39. Gregory,
May the force be with you bruddha.
I love that you keep sharing your art despite your homelessness. It’s inspiring, since I’m having same situation as yourself, wandering from place to place, but with a savings on my hand keeping me afloat while pursuing my dreams.
Make sure you keep your sense of humor amidst hardship : )

I have sent a prayer your way..

Peace over and out, and once again, may the force be with you!

  40. Hello fellow cat lover,
Lovebomb sent me your way. What an amazing story and what courage you have to be living your creative dream in this ‘macho’ world with all it’s ‘rat race’ pressures. Know that many hold you and your Mario in love’s light and pray that you may find a secure and stable home so you may springboard into your fantastic future. Hold the dream and take care,
    love and light,
    Paloma

  41. Glad to hear that you have a place tonight. My prayers go out to you. God has a plan and a place for you.

And hey, as a fellow knitter, I absolutely love your stuff!

  42. Gregory,
I hope that you and Mario are safe, and that you are able to find a place where you can stay every night. I hate that homelessness is still an issue in the 21st century, and my heart breaks because I wish there was a way every man, woman, child, and pet had a safe, reliable, forever home. I’m not very religious, but I am going to send you all the positive energy and miracles I can find. Good luck, stay strong, keep knitting!

  43. It’s great to hear you have such passion for your products and that you have great company beside you! Stay strong!

  44. Dear Gregory: I would like to order some knitting from you. My daughter in law is having my first grandchild, JoLynne, in November. I would love to get her a very special knitted item. What would you suggest? Christy

  45. Hello Gregory:
I’ve been reading your story and am very impressed with both your dedication to your craft and your attitude. Clearly, things are difficult, but try to remain positive. Good things are going to happen for you…..
    Namaste,
    Amy.

    Much love and light

  49. Gregory,
I just wanted you to know that I nominated you for this week’s “Love Bomb” and you were chosen…so get ready for an outpouring of love and prayers from some caring folks on the Love Bomb team. http://dropalovebomb.com/

  50. Gregory-

I hope you got my post earlier…It might not have gone through. You are awesome, your talent, your not giving in or up attitude. Great things will come your way my friend.

    Sincerely,

    Mark

  51. I just wanted to stop by and wish you a little love today. Your bears are adorable, your kitty is adorable, and you’re pretty adorable, too. I wish you love, happiness – and last but not least – shelter from the cold. Be well!

  52. Hey Greg,

I just checked out your shop and I gotta say that your bears are absolutely abdorable. I sincerely hope you will soon be able to find a comfortable place to stay with Mario where you can successfully run your business. (Love Bomb brought me here.)

I hope you can find a home soon, for you and Mario!!
Never give up of your dreams!!
    Positive vibrations always!!
    My best wishes,

  54. Hey Greg!

You are one amazing dude. Taking a look around your blog, it’s so incredibly encouraging to see such an optimistic take on life! “The richness of life is filled only with the possibilities that you allow.” Wow. Seriously. You blow my mind. Keep on keeping on, my friend, God is smiling down on you.

    God bless!

    Allissa

  55. “The stars are constantly shining, but often we do not see them until the darkest hours.”- Although times are tough and seem to be never ending at times, please try to remember this quote. Things will get better, I know they will. Keep your hope and stay positive

  56. You are truly inspiring. Keep your chin up, kid. Your break will come along here soon. Keep your faith in yourself and the hope you prominently display. Remember that you’re not alone. Keep up the good work. If you ever find yourself in Utah, hit me up…we’ll figure something out, dear.

    ❤ – Felicia

  57. Hope you and Mario get a good night’s rest – yay for meatloaf! Here’s hoping tomorrow brings even better things for you 🙂

  58. Keep up the fight. It doesn’t happen overnight, but one day you’ll look back and see how this journey made you stronger than you ever realized you could be. You’ll be a better man for it. You’ll appreciate things so much more. I’ll keep checking your etsy, I’d love to purchase a bear when you have more listed.

  59. I’m so glad you’ve found a place to stay. You are such a talented knitter. Give your kitty a squeeze for me!

  60. Enjoy your wonderful night! Your work is amazing! Try to remember that everything happens for a reason and your days of struggle are leading you to somewhere fantastic!

  61. All my thoughts and prayers go with you – what a brave and incredible man you are! If I ever need a beautiful bear, I know where to go now. Keep your chin up!

  62. Gregory,

I just wanted to let you know that I am amazed by you and that your bears on Etsy are absolutely adorable. You are blessing people with your handmade bears and in return, I hope that you will soon find a permanent place to live. When I read this short entry and your profile information on Etsy, I can feel the love that you put into your craft. You are a talented, caring, and loving person and I wish only the best for you.

Hang in there and remember that with God, all things are possible.

  63. This last post was from July 6. Hope things have improved. I don’t know you at all. Read your story. I’m a 50-year-old singing teacher mom and wife with two kids in Florida. I have a little dog named Sammy, so I understand your love of Mario. I read a bit about your philosophical yearnings. Don’t like to be in people’s faces, but maybe check out buddhism. It’s been a big help in my life, although I call myself a boddhiwannabe. I’m just at the beginning of this path. Wish I could do more other than saying you’re in my thoughts, and I will hope for the best. Checked out your bears. Money is tight right now (students drop drastically in the summer), but as soon as I can, I will purchase one for my daughter Gabby. They are lovely, and I know she will love it. The two of us will also knit. A mantra that has helped me through lately: Buddham saranam gacchami (I go to the buddha for refuge — it’s not really turning to anything outward — it’s the buddha that’s within you and in all of us). Best of luck man. Here’s hoping things get better.
    -Lisa (lisasings94@gmail.com)

  64. I just wanted to stop buy and say what an inspiration you and Mario are. I feel very honoured to be able to give one of your bears a home. Each time I look at it I will think of you and hope you and Mario are safe and happy.

  65. Dear Gregory,
I haven’t been in your position so I can only imagine the strain that you are going through. Your courage to keep going on regardless of your life circumstances at this moment inspires me. You are a person of worth and integrity and I wish you all the best! You and Mario are in my thoughts and prayers.

    Best wishes,
    Anne

  66. Wow Gregory! I’m so impressed with your commitment to your art and I LOVE that felt/knitted bag on your Etsy page! I’m so buying one. I’ll be in contact soon!
Glad to hear you found a place to stay and that you have your feline friend to cosy up to. As a SCADDIE I remember the Firefly cafe and am saddened to hear it went so downhill 😦 Keep up the great knitting and I’ll do my best to promote your work on my blog and FB page in the hopes it will help you out some.
    Take care!

  67. Hello Gregory Patrick,
I heard about you and adorable Mario through LoveBomb.com and just want to let you know that I am sending you good thoughts and hope things turn around for you soon. I love your bears and will be ordering one from you. How long does it take to knit a bear? Amanda

  68. I’m a new fan–sent here by the Love Bomb people (http://archive.aweber.com/iswu-love-bomb/OXSTk/h/_Love_Bomb_Mission_.htm).

May your search for shelter be successful beyond your wildest dreams. A mantra that has helped me through rough times is “The home you seek is seeking you.”

As soon as I can replenish my PayPal account, I’ll be putting in an order for one of your darling bears. Wish I could do more, but I live well below the poverty line myself.

  69. Hi Gregory…and Mario! Just read your blog and really liked your comment about “looking forward to foolish things this evening”. It made me smile. ActualIy laugh out loud. I admire your positive attitude in spite of your tough situation. I’m sending my love to you. May you always know that there are lots of people who will continue to do so.

  70. Hoping that you and Mario have been able to find a place and that you are knitting up a storm! Have a great day and sending lots of positive energy your way!

  71. Gregory,

I just came across your story from Love Bomb. I’m so glad that you and Mario have a decent place to sleep tonight, and I hope you get some much needed rest. I checked out your Etsy shop, and you make the most adorable little bears! I purchased one for myself, and I look forward to giving it to my kid one day, knowing all of the love and hope that went into making it. Know that my thoughts are with you!

    -Sabrina

  72. Happy to hear you & little Mario have shelter for now. Sending prayers and thoughts your way for continued shelter, food, health and safety!

  73. Hi Gregory,
I can’t imagine how hard is to be going thru this difficult times. Even though we do not know each other, i want you to know that you’ll be in my prayers. I know that things will change soon for better! Don’t give up never and put all your trust in God.
    Hugs,
    Karencilla

  74. Hope you’ve found another place. My prayers are with you and Mario and that you will be able to find more permanent shelter. Stay strong.

  75. Hi Gregory,
I hope you and Mario (is Mario a girl kitty?) are okay.

I just checked your Etsy page and it looks like the items that were there were sold today! That’s wonderful! I’m unemployed right now so while I couldn’t buy one of your adorable bears, I could certainly buy a Kindle version of one of your books on Amazon to read on my computer. You make a profit on those, I hope?

I have subscribed to your blog and look forward to hearing more about the adventures of you & Mario. Sending many many blessings and positive thoughts your way. XOXOXO

  76. You have friends in New Jersey! My family and I are bouncing from home to home as well, but with better luck.

My cat hogs the covers too. She’s like super fat though. Do you need cat food?

I’m so glad you guys are having luck. Lots of love from up north!

  77. Wow, what an inspiration. I am very moved by your story and really taken with your work. Don’t despair there are always silver linings in lean times. There are amazing people everywhere and some always willing to help if asked. Talk to those sweet bears of yours and tell them what you really need right now. I have a small hand size bear that has traveled with me since I was 7. Now at 55 he has seen me through the good and bad times. I take each day as it comes, look to nature for lessons, and smile at strangers whenever possible. Keep knitting goodness into the world.
    Love,
    Sue
    Victoria, B.C. Canada

  78. I’m so glad you’re safe for now and I am amazed at your knitting ability. I’ve never been able to master that skill. Keep positive thoughts!

  79. I hope your recent poster (AL) was able to find a place for you. I’ve discovered your blog just today through the Love Bomb project. And wow, how inspiring are YOU?! Thanks for sharing your life. Hang in there! ❤ R

  80. I don’t know you, but I’m so glad that you have a place to stay for the moment. Not having a steady place to stay has to be incredibly tough, but I absolutely admire your positivity and perseverance throughout this experience. I’m rooting for you, Gregory. Now I’m off to check out your Etsy shop! Have a lovely day.

  81. so happy to read that you have found shelter for the time being. Cannot imagine how hard it is. You have a great spirit through your words that I can surely feel. Hopefully that spirit will carry you through onto achieving happiness and your dreams. sending you great thoughts!

  82. Dear Greg and Mario 🙂

You’re in my thoughts and prayers. Keep your head up, life will get better.

    Lots of love,
    OG

  83. Matthew 6: 25- 34

    Do Not Worry

25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

These verses have brought me great comfort many times. I hope they do the same for you. May God bless you and Mario.

  84. Praying you find shelter permanently. Until then, take comfort in knowing others are thinking of you. Blessings.

  85. Hi Gregory – I found your story through Love Bomb and my cat Sadie and I want to send some good thoughts and wishes your way. Your bears are adorable, and I’ll be checking Etsy for when you list some more for sale!
    Keli

  86. Hi,
Found out about you from the Love Bomb site.
You sound like a really talented guy- artistic in your knitting and your writing.
May good fortune come your way sooner rather than later.

  87. My prayers are with you and Mario, Gregory. I looked at your knitted bears in your etsy shop … they are adorable! I’d love to buy some when you have more in stock.

  88. It’s so good to know you have a safe, warm place for the night. I hope and pray that living situations will not be a source of worry for you and that you will be able to feel the security of a permanent home soon. Good thoughts and prayers are headed your way as well as hopefully some peace and a good roof. Keep strong and optimistic. Things will turn up eventually 🙂

  89. I also love Howards End, I do not have the dedication to re-read it every Spring but I shall be sourcing myself a copy very soon to read again. May you always find joy in your favourite book, with your favourite cat and with your bears.

    1. People often ask why that book affected me so much. I think its the best example of life and people I’ve ever been touched by in literature. I’ve known Schlegels and I’ve known Wilcoxes….and lately I’ve felt so much like Leonard Bast.

  90. Gregory,
What an amazing person you are to have the outlook you do in a time that must be scary and unpredictable. I found you via LOVEDROP and your bravery is amazing. I will be sending virtual hugs and love your way from Iowa. 🙂 Your teddy bear is just beautiful and has such expression – I now know where I’m going to get the next round of birthday and Christmas gifts for my kiddos and nieces and nephews!
    Love,
    Les

  91. Hey, Gregory. Praying for you and Mario, and I cannot even say how impressed/inspired/slightly humbled I am by your determination to stay faithful to your work even in the face of the thousand mundane attacks life throws at you. That’s courage, man. I’m glad to have “met” you.
    ~L

  92. Sending the best of thoughts your way…. try to stay positive and good things will happen eventually! Also, how do we order teddy bears?! I want one!

  93. Hey Gregory–
So sorry to hear you’ve fallen on hard times. I admire your spirit and dedication to persevering with your business. I’m sending good thoughts to both you and Mario that brighter times are just around the corner. Take care.

    Linda

  94. Another lovebomber here, dropping by to say you’re in my thoughts and prayers and I hope you find a more permanent arrangement for where to live and thrive!

Way to go keeping up with your Etsy store, may you have continued success with your bears!
    Andrea

    Lori

PS. I just add your Etsy shop to my favorites.

  97. Hi Gregory,

I imagine you have a ton of comments to moderate right now. I’m one more Love-bomber saying hello and sending love and support your way. I hope you won’t have to spend too many more nights on the street. Is there any way I can support you as you work on figuring out your next steps?

    Much love,
    Lori

  98. Glad to hear you have shelter. I know how hard it is to be without a place for a while… And with a dear kitty, wow. Best wishes to you and your cat as you adventure through life together. <33 Don't forget that art is what makes life worth it. ^__^

    Live and loves. <33

  99. I’m really glad you’ve found a place for you and Mario to rest a while. I just checked out your Etsy after finding your blog and your bears are the most adorable things! I’ll definitely be ordering one as soon as I can.

From what I’ve read, you seem like the most lovely man, with such a big heart. I just wish I could do something to help you out. The world needs more people like you.

I wish you all the best x

  100. Have come here via Love Bomb to wish you and your kitty all the very best. I will add you to my prayers. Am so impressed at your determination and creativity in the face of such odds. With resilience like that you are sure to bounce back. Honest! 🙂

  101. Hey Gregory,

keep your head up; I really admire you how you take care of Mario and your business all while fighting homelessness!

Everything will gonna be alright, that is sure. So I keep you in my thoughts and hope it all turns out fine rather sooner than later!

    Take care,

    Marion

  102. Gregory,

Thinking of you and keeping you in my prayers. I hope things improve for you soon. Stay safe!

    James

  103. SO glad for both you and Mario! Your faith and optimism is inspiring. Be strong. I know God is watching over you both very closely. He is Protector and has promised to comfort you in the shelter of his mighty arms. You are in my prayers, friend. 🙂

  104. Hello Gregory – Your blog is really heartfelt, and your knitting work is awesome. I wish you the best and send positive energy and love your way. I wish you and Mario many well fed and restful nights to come.
    ~ Laura

  105. All things considered, that sounds like a pleasurable evening 🙂 It has been my experience that if you follow your passion, you will find happiness and that things have a way of working themselves out (with a little help from you, of course;-) ). If making teddy bears to provide joy to others feels right, and you’re happy doing it, it sends out this positive energy and the world has a way of reciprocating it. Keep doing what you love, and I’m sure you’ll be fine. Nothing lasts forever, good or bad…all we have is now. Enjoy today and every day and take care of yourself (and of Mario). Peace and love.

  106. Every day’s another chance, every step is a prayer…. everything will be alright!
All the love, good energies and affection from Brasil to you both!
    Asè!

  107. LOVE BOMB! Your strength is powerful and your determination is inspiring 🙂 Wish you all the best and hope that you find a warm place to rest your soul and snuggle with Mario really soon. Take care out there

  108. I’m hoping you’re still safely sheltered, Gregory. Your knitting is beautiful and definitely deserves to be successful. I saw your knitting video (lovely!) but couldn’t get any items to come up in your Etsy shop. I hope that means you’ve sold out from so much extra business! I’m keeping you in my thoughts and prayers. Wishing you success and happiness, Deb

  109. Glad that you’ve found shelter! Hope everything works well for you! 🙂 Too bad you don’t have anything on your store right now – I was interested to see the things you knit..

  110. Gregory Patrick, hang in there my friend. God really does provide, you have to continue to BELIEVE! Ride the wave of the Universe and with every down the wave will rise once more. Blessings!!

  111. Hello Mr. Patrick, I heard about you from Love Bomb. Just wanted to say that I hope that you can make your dreams come true… I cannot imagine what it is like to not have a place to call your own, and how hard it must be to never know what’s next. You must be a very strong person.

You and your Mario kitty are in my thoughts and prayers. Wishing you a place to call your own and many blessings…

    Heather

  112. Reading your blog is truly inspirational. You are absolutely living with purpose and it is something that many people who are working 9 to 5 are sorely missing. I wish you the best with your business and am confident that you will be able to find some financial stability very soon!

  113. Wish I had more to offer than prayers-but I’ve been reading your blog and think it’s amazing. Love to you and Mario, and hope that someone finds you a place soon. xx

  114. Hang in there, Gregory! Your creations are amazing and our hearts are with you.
    The Schmidt Family

  115. Gregory –
Heard your story through LoveBomb and just want to encourage you. Your work is wonderful! Praying for you, and so happy that you have a roof over your head this week.

    God Bless,

    Erin

  116. So much respect for you, sir – To be able to speak so positively despite your situation, you must be a very strong person indeed!
I really hope you’re able to find a permanent place to live soon, you deserve it.
Again, you have my utmost respect. Keep up the optimism, things will get better 🙂

  117. Hi Greg, as someone who is not homeless, but is quite transient at the moment, I have an idea of what you’re going through. I just wish you the best of luck, and a strong heart. Things will get better, but it’s a long road. Know there are people out there who want to help you on the way.

  118. Mario,
Your story is truly incredible. I know that in the end, somehow everything will work out. So keep fighting the good fight! You will make it through!
    Melissa

  119. Hey, I think it’s so cool that you knit, and I want to read your books! This situation will pass. Wishing you much love and happiness and peace and a bright future. It seems like you have a lot of friends who really love you.
    Much love,
    heidi

  120. Hi Gregory! I just wanted to say that I love your designs, and I also know what it is like to move from place to place. Keep up the great attitude and I know that soon you will find something more permanent. The Universe always gives back to those who emanate wonderful energy like yours.

    Chrissie

  121. Gregory –

You were featured on Love Bomb today and I can personally connect with your plight as I’ve traveled a little bit in your shoes in my lifetime, I hope that you continue to do what you love and thrive because of it.

    – Scott

  122. Gregory, I hope you and Mario will have a place to call your own very soon. I’ll keep you in my prayers. Remember, never, never give up! xx

  123. gregory, just wanted to send a little love your way. your strength & courage is an inspiration, & i know that you have what it takes to turn things around. keep creating & following your heart – it won’t lead you wrong. thoughts & best wishes 🙂

  124. Gregory,
I learned of your story from Love Bomb and was compelled to visit your Blog. I won’t pretend to understand how you must feel with everything you have faced and are currently facing. Instead, I want you to know there are a lot of people out in the ether sending you energy, grace and hope. Your passion for your art, your business and your dear Mario ring through in all that you write. I believe strongly that your experience is speaking to the hearts of many and that you will change the hearts of many who do not understand how someone can teeter into the world of homelessness. You serve as a lesson that bad things happen despite our best intentions and planning and I believe that you will serve as inspiration and truth for those who are in their own struggle. I wish you daily, no hourly, strength, a safe place to rest yours and Mario’s head and a knitting business that continues to grow. Blessings.

  125. You are a brave man with an amazing talent. Your work is beautiful. Keep your head up. You and Mario are in my prayers.

  126. you may be struggling today but someday, things will change because God is amazing. Take this as an experience which will make you stronger!
It’s amazing that you knit and you know how to, I would love to learn but I am somewhat lazy.
    You are amazing 🙂

  127. Hi Gregory, I really hope things work out for you and Mario. You are a very interesting person (and no offence meant i like to think i am an interesting person too haha) i will definitely check out your mad man knitting book and Foe which sounds right up my street. And I absolutely ADORE your bears but not sure if i can get hold of one because i live in New Zealand! Thinking of you and Mario from Angela and my cat Lightning xx

    1. One of my best customers, Mandi, lives in New Zealand! And I do so hope you love my books. Be warned, Foe is a rough pill to swallow. Not tough, for that would mean its difficult. Rough, because its filled with emotional razor blades.

      1. It was so heart warming to read your response to the love bomb and I am certain that you will do wonderful things to help others through their own troubled times in the future. I am somehow drawn to emotional razor blades, I have written 3 books myslef about my personal struggles to understand and fit into this crazy world and I am always interested in other people’s stories. I will let you know what I think of the books and i am saving up to buy one of your bears, I will have to keep him safe from Lightning seeing how he dismantles a ball of string so rapidly. Mario must be very respectful of your work =^..^=

  128. I looooove your work! Such heart and personality come through! I know what it is like to lose everything and have a companion pet to both watch over and have hold your heart. I am keeping you in my thoughts and prayers that your journey will take a gentler turn. A quote that sometimes centers me during challenging times: “I am not afraid of storms for I am learning how to sail my ship.” (Louisa May Alcott). I wish you and Mario calm waters upon which to sail.

  129. Hi Gregory! I think you’re a real inspiration, and it is heartwarming for me to read how dedicated you are to living in the face of adversity. That may sound silly to say, to be dedicated to living, but you’ve got some pretty tricky obstacles thrown your way and it seems to me like you’re not letting them keep you back from making the most of every day. I think that’s the most that matters in any life, and you’ve got that figured out better than most people I’ve known.
That being said, no matter how good any of us have it going, sometimes we all need a bit more strength to give us that extra push, a confidence in the future to give us some right-now motivation. So I’m sending you thoughts of strength to keep doing what you’re doing, to keep being an inspiration and to keep making adorably cute teddies and to keep playing blanket tug-of-war with your cat.
Where are you based out of?
All the best to the two of you.
    Love,
    Alithea

    1. At the moment, I’m based out of Orlando, by way of Savannah (which is my stomping ground, my ancestral home). I wanted to say thank yhou for being so kind with your comment. ….and nothing you said was silly. It was all heartfelt and will be taken with me when I find a home. 🙂

  130. Gregory,
So much optimism in your words..and gratitude..that is what speaks loudest to me in the words you share: your gratitude…
May you allow this gratitude to guide you to magnificent places..to extend this temporary reprieve to something permanent..to find comfort and rest and peace…
Thank you for being you..and thank you for sharing your words:)

  131. You are an absolutely amazing person, and there’s no way things won’t work out for you, I hope you’ll find a place soon! I’ll be praying for you and Mario to find somewhere comfortable to be! Best of luck:)

  132. Gregory, I admire your courage and your big heart (taking care of little Mario!). It takes a lot of courage to be an artist in our culture, and I applaud your commitment and authenticity.

Please know that I am sending loving thoughts your way and asking the Great Spirit to cradle you in a loving and protective embrace.

  133. Just looking at your Etsy shop and your past sales, it seems you truly have a gift for making sweet teddy’s that children will adore. It also seems like you have an amazing attitude despite being homeless. Thoughts and prayers for a permanent living arrangement!

  134. Greg,

You have a gift with words. Your blog is both an inspiration and a comfort; know that you have one more person cheering you on.

  135. Mario seems like a much loved friend. So glad you have her to give you some love and comfort. Hang in there

  136. As a man with two kittehs, I can recognize how hard it is to keep the pet that helps you keep your sanity. With your situation, however, you are dually challenged. I commend you for your bravery and your skills, and indeed I am praying for you to find a permanent home! May G-d bless your work and many people find your art!

    G-Man

    1. Thank you so much, G-man. Two cats? I was once there…..and one slipped away to FLUTC and then it was just Mario and I. And that’s why she’s so important to me. She’s all I have left.

  137. Your knitted creations are so lovely! I would definitely buy one of your sweet little wooly friends. I really hope you find a home soon for you and Mario…sending you lots of good vibes for positive change.

  138. Sending you positive thoughts full of finding your own (forever) home to stay with your kitty and your wonderful bears!

  139. Hi Gregory,

I love your bears! I was disappointed to see there were no bears available for sale at your Etsy shop. I live in Colorado, where the “Teddy Bear” was created, or so they say (in Glenwood Springs, CO). I hope wherever you are right now, you and Mario feel safe, secure, and happy with shelter. If not, I’m sure you’ll find some soon. I’ve poked around a little on your blog and it seems like you have a very good head on your shoulders.

Sending you love, hugs, hope, thoughts… from Colorado. MAKE MORE BEARS! 🙂

-Shannon (the human), and Sylvester the Katt (the spoiled little brat)

    1. Yay! A Sylvester! I had no idea the teddy was born in Colorado! ….I should design one in homage. Bears are being listed as we speak, and as I mentioned in my latest blog, they’re all being done up “first come, first gained.” 🙂

  140. Gregory –

I have spent some time reading many of your posts and I like the layout of your blog. I’m just learning about how to make my own blog and in the process of determinging blogger or wordpress. Care to share why you use wordpress?

I was given a challenge to reach out to you. On the surface it sounds like a fun thing to do but what does that really mean? I don’t want to be all fluff and clearly we don’t know each other. I can’t imagine what it is like to be in your shoes but I definitely admire your perseverance. I can relate to what it is like when you spoke of Mario and when close ones told you to basically give up Mario. I could never do that to any animal I have ever owned. My ‘animals’ are my furkids and they mean the world to me. As hard as it has been and continues to be for you – hang in there. I don’t have an magic answers but I do have a few ideas if you have no yet considered them:

I was curious about your teeth situation. The US medical care really sucks in situations like yours and for many others. I’m sure you have thought of everything possible but there was a time I did not have insurance and contacted a school of dentistry. Have you tried that? They have much reduced rates – like astronically low but you kind of become a guinea pig but all of the work is overseen by professional dentists. It’s worth trying if you haven’t yet.

Lastly, I was curious about your bears…if I’ve read your site correctly, there is no listed cost but just a donation. Is there any way you could share an average costs? If not publicly then privately? Would you consider accepting a donation but giving the bear to someone who needs one? I would send you cat food but not sure where exactly you are – that reminds me – I have been involved in a program called ‘Pets on Wheels’ through the Red Cross which is exactly like Meals on Wheels for elderly folks. I have delivered pet foods to owners of various ages who have a hard time making ends meet and we of course do not want people to give up their loved ones. This is another thing worth checking out until you are able to get on your feet again. Back to your bears – this is another thing I was able to relate to – when your family completely disregards what you are doing and asks if you have found a job yet. Kudos for you for holding onto something you love. I can completely envision that having a solid place to stay, you would be able to earn a living on this. Without that, it is going to be impossible to spend the time and energy needed to create your product. Have you considered connecting with elderly folks as a possible live in? Not sure if you are interested in helping someone but in return you would have a place to stay, I would imagine many elderly folks would enjoy the company of Mario and not to be stereotypical but knitting would be a common interest as well.

I am curious how you do and will follow your blog. You seem like a very nice gentleman in a very unfortunate circumstance. I applaud you for not turning to crime or other negative ways to make a living cuz that would be an easy thing to do and certainly more profitable.

I hope to hear back from you someday. Kari

    1. The first thing I wanted to say was thank you for such a great letter. Yes, I do still believe communication between people regardless of electronic or otherwise is still called correspondence. It was thoughtful of you to think of me so much. The dentist I saw did the work for free, knowing my situation. He’s a highly recommended, well established man who knew I didn’t have the funds, but still took on my case. I am forever indebted to him. My bears! I list them on Etsy, there is a link to my shop on my blog. And yes, I do so love wordpress much more than some of the other blogs because of its ease, its information. I have thought about helping elderly people in exchange for a room, but the world has poisoned so many minds. What on earth would a ruffian, dirty jeaned man with a cat be doing in someone’s home other than to rob them? That’s what I was met with.
My best to you, Kari. And again, I can’t thank you enough for the concern and the time in writing to me.
      My best!

  141. Hi Gregory, I am touch by your story and really hope you’ll be able to grow your knitting business and find a permanent place to live. Pursuing your passion is such an inspiring thing to observe and I hope I can be just as brave as you in taking on a little more risk to do the things I am really passionate about.

    Have an awesome day!

    Greetings from Norway 🙂

  142. Hi Gregory! I so admire your hard work and tenacity, and I will be keeping you and Mario in my prayers. I’ve got your Etsy page added to my favorites list, so I look forward to keeping up with your additions there!

  143. Your message is so full of peace, and coming from someone who is homeless, that is inspiring.

I just want you to know you are loved by people far and wide who have never even met you. Stay on your peaceful path and a way will open for you 🙂

  144. You are in my thoughts! I wish you well and look forward to your future creations. Keep your head up! ❤

"Your daily life is your temple and your religion. When you enter into it
take with you your all." ~ Kahlil Gibran

  145. What an inspiration you are Gregory! what I love about your style is through all your uphill obstacles, you still remain in the attitude of gratitude. If you stay there in that space and expand it.. you are limitless. Stay there, manifest love, always grateful and KNOW something in the Universe is shifting right now… JUST FOR YOU!!! There is no such thing as luck… the quote below made me think of your story:

“Luck is not a magical ability or a gift from the gods, instead, it is a way of thinking and behaving. If luck means being in the right place at the right time, being in the right place at the right time is actually all about being in the right state of mind.” -Richard Wiseman

You, my friend, are already in the right state of mind, you are grateful and you love. ❤ ❤ ❤

    1. I’ve not been asked of my spiritual inclinations, but they are of a Christian Hermeticist point of view, and in that is the beloved axiom: “As above, so below.” You’re right….I’ll only reap from life what my mind wishes to sow of it.

  146. Hope you find a soft place to land & get settled. Back in the day, I lost my meager waitress job & I found myself out on the street & couch surfing with friends. It’s not fun, but it’s not forever. Just locate resources for support & stay focused on your goals. It’s hard to believe now, but hings will change.

  147. may you recieve the best most beautiful truthing peace loving kindness health wealth caring sharing now and ever

  148. Gregory, I’m sending you lots of strength so that you can go through each day and continue working with hope. As you say, this IS temporary. Keep going, I’m sure better things are just a few steps ahead! Hugs 🙂

  149. Hi! I read the last couple of pages of your blog and I’m so unbelievably sorry about everything that’s happened. But please please remember that circumstances are always temporary. And every day is a new day. Don’t give up:)

  150. I happened to find your site from the folks over at It.Starts.With.Us…I am happy to hear that you (and Mario) have a place to stay for now and I hope that AL (one of the commenters) has a permanent place for you. You are in my thoughts and prayers. Sending you my love…from a friend in California. ::hugs:: to you and to Mario.

  151. I see “A Life in Trash Bags” post at the top of this page. That sounds like a book title. Maybe you could journal your life and write a book about it.
Sending you angel blessings to always have a roof over yours and Marios head and a nice dinner every night.

  152. You bears are amazing!! You have a natural talent & gift that few ever get to experience in life, keep up the good job! Wishing you all hte very best always, your Canadian friend 🙂

  153. Sending you lots of love!!!!! Sending you so much love and prayers and energy!!! I want nothing but good for you! Keep fighting and being who you are!!! Be prepared for a LOVE Bomb! 🙂

      1. Wasn’t it amazing? I am curious to how you are doing today, how is Mario? I hope things are going ok for you. Someone had said you posted a new blog but I didn’t see it? Maybe I need to refresh it was an old link. Hugs Hugs Hugs and Love Love Love to you!! SMILE for me :)))
        Amy

  154. Dear Gregory and Mario!

Sending you both huge big hugs and silly amounts of love & light. Keeping my fingers crossed that two great personalities like yourselves will find a safe, warm and loving home soon! Keep your chin up when possible and when not, trust that this too shall pass.

    🙂

  155. You are an inspiration- sending so much positive energy to others through your knitting. Lots of my friends are having babies and who doesn’t love an adorable knit bear? Where can I purchase your bears?

  156. Just wanted to send over some good vibes and loving kindness – purchased your book for my Kindle. Knit on my friend! Wishing for safety and shelter for you and your kitty.

  157. Hello Gregory,
I am impressed with you writing and also your courage in taking one day at a time. I send you my wishes for you to be able to do what your passion is, to be able to care for your beloved cat and to be happy. You sound like a great man.

  158. Gregory, I understand homelessness as I was there not that many years ago. Things do change, Thoughts become things.. keep thinking of the place you will be in and how your art will be part of so many people’s lives. Get excited! Know with everything in you that you and Mario will have a safe place to call your own!.. Sending positive thoughts out to help you.. YAY! you are amazing!

  159. you have a beautiful story Gregory. Please keep up your spirits and know that there is always a place for someone with a big heart and a beautiful talent like yours in the world.

  160. Hi,

you don’t know me and I don’t know you, but I think you could use some extra prayers. I have no idea how frustrating and scary it must be not to know whether you’re going to have shelter for the next night or not, and I wish you can find some safety in your life. You and Mario (I have three cats of my own, so I know how dear she must be to you) are in my thoughts and in my prayers. Unfortunately I’m a poor student myself, so I can’t donate more than a few dollars – but at least I have a steady source of income and a roof above my head. I hope that one day you’ll get both, doing what you love.

    1. Are you kidding me? A few dollars is a million to me. THANK YOU!!!! And the prayers and support carry so much weight. SOOOOO much weight, knowing I get to wake and know the world won’t let me fail. You have a wonderful heart. My best, Gregory.

  161. Hi there, I came across your website on Love Bombs … I’ve been really inspired by how you dare to dream big and to live it out. I hope you are doing well. Please take care! Wishing you all the best in the future 🙂

  162. Take care! All the love and best wishes for you! Hope you both have a good night! Good dreams…. =*

  163. Hi Gregory!

I bet you’ll be amazed to know that a 19 year old girl all the way from Singapore has read and knows of your story. You’re an inspiration, honestly. Through every obstacle you push through with amazing optimism, never wavering from your beliefs and I personally think thats just amazing. This is going to sound terribly cheesy but you’re like an angel giving hope through your bears and handiwork. Whether its through your writing or your knitting, you work hard and that shows in your products. Its not just a bear made in a factory, but one made with such care and love it means so much more. (: When I first read your blog I actually wished I could invite you to stay with my family! (please don’t think I’m a creep) Hahaha I’d love to learn how to knit, and you’d get great friends in my siblings. (do you like kids and dogs?) But you know what, I think someday you’re going to have a great home, with great people, doing what you love. With the strength and perseverance you have, I can’t see anything but good in your future. Press on! You’re awesome!

    Much love,
    Annalisa (:

  164. Hey
Hope everything turns out great in the end and that you (and the cat) find a perminant place of residance eventually.Glad to see your full of so much optamism, and keep doing what you do- im sure it will inpire many others. Its nice to see someones taken a chance doing what they love. Good Luck and all the best wishes for the future.

  165. Hi Gregory, I just wanted to stop by and wish you all the best of luck. You seem like a kind, sweet guy, and both you and Mario will be in my thoughts and prayers.

    Stay strong!

    Love,
    Lauren Helen

  166. Oh man! Have all the bears gone? (Needless to say this is a FAB thing!!)
    Will there be another listing?
    When might this happen?
So happy to red your latest blog update and grinning like a Cheshire cat just thinking of you opening your inbox!
With love and light from London

  167. I’m a little late in dropping a wee love bomb (sorry to be late!) but I still wanted to just drop in and wish you well. 🙂
Can I just say you are neato? Heck, forget plain ol’ neato — You are AWESOME! Hmm, the mad in madmanknitting really means – Muy Awesome Dude, right? 🙂 That’s what I think anyway.
Wishing you and Mario (would it be possible to see a pic of him soon?) all the best! Please give Mario an extra hug for me! 🙂

  168. Hi, Gregory. Your story has truley touched my heart & I am praying for you & Mario. From what I have read it seems that you have a very positive look on life. I have learned that that is very important. Glad to hear that you have Mario always by your side as she will love you no matter what, I have 3 cats & they have been blessings to me. Keep that spirit alive in your heart & great things will come your way. Best Wishes!
